Rutgers Climate Bridge Panel 6: The Impact on Land
Abstract
Urban green infrastructure (UGI) holds great promise for developing more sustainable and climate-resilient cities with a high quality of life. The Center for Urban Ecology and Climate Adaptation at the Technical University of Munich was founded in 2013 to develop an evidence-based approach for climate protection and adaptation via UGI in Bavaria, Germany. Our research has demonstrated the capacity of UGI to increase thermal comfort on hot summer days and local stormwater management. Detailed guidance supports UGI planning of local communities. Main challenges for transforming urban areas in a changing climate will be discussed.
