Rutgers Climate Bridge Panel 6: The Impact on Land

Abstract

Rutgers students interned with the NJ Forest Service over the summer of 2021 to revisit a tree planting initiative from the early 2000s that was aimed at combating urban heat islands and reducing energy costs for city residents.  While the revisit of this project is still very early in process, the work from this summer did reveal some important considerations. This presentation will discuss the important relationships and early findings identified through this internship project, as well as new methods available to evaluate the benefits city trees provide.
