Rutgers Climate Bridge Panel 5: The Impact of Sea Level Rise

Abstract

Superstorm Sandy made landfall along the New Jersey coastline nearly a decade ago. Since this time, sea level rise science has advanced, there has been an acknowledgement of the need for an interdisciplinary approach to address sea level rise and there has been a heightened recognition that under-resourced individuals will be unequally impacted by climate change. In service of making state-based climate science useful and useable, Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey has committed to regularly assess the needs of practitioners and decision makers and meet their needs through tools, technical assistance, and science-based services. While science is at the center of Rutgers’ approach, it is one piece of a complex puzzle of diverse ways that the Rutgers hosted New Jersey Climate Change Resource Center is addressing the challenges of climate change adaptation at the state, county, and local levels.
