Rutgers Climate Bridge Panel 1: Impact on People
Abstract
Community gardens indicate where social, environmental, and economic change is desired. As spaces that are organized and built at the human scale, community gardens also present a unique site in which to examine an aesthetic of care that can teach us about a much larger approach to a climate ethic rooted in attentiveness. Such spaces speak to agency and autonomy at the neighborhood level and have the capacity to provide an intimate study of resilience, resistance, and reciprocity in a world faced with myriad challenges made more pronounced by climate change.
