Mission Statement

The Mission of the Center for Urban Environmental Sustainability (CUES) is to bring environmental planning, research, and public outreach available through Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey out into the (sub-)urban communities of New Jersey.

CUES is a unique interdisciplinary collaboration, providing the best science, planning, engineering, and design expertise to address (sub-)urban environmental issues. Faculty participating in CUES projects are associated with diverse academic disciplines, including the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES), Departments of Landscape Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Biochemistry & Microbiology, the Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI), and the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.

CUES provides expertise and research related to environmental and natural resources, human and ecosystem health, and supporting community health and development. Through collaborations with faculty and students, CUES also provides educational opportunities for Rutgers students interested in environmental sustainability.
