Kearny Marsh Freshwater Wetland Restoration

Photo: Kearny Marsh in Summer.

Remediation of the Kearny Marsh cannot be successful unless the hydrology and contaminant inputs to this man-made freshwater wetland are understood. Successful remediation of the marsh involves collection and treatment of highly contaminated leachate from the Keegan landfill and remediation of highly contaminated sediments. To successfully accomplish this complex remediation and restoration an interdisciplinary approach is required.
